Steppin For Strength – Tanner’s Journey
Our Mission
Steppin For Strength is a community-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness, promoting prevention, and providing support to individuals and families affected by suicide throughout Acadiana. Our mission is to create a compassionate and understanding environment where people feel supported, connected, and encouraged during life’s most difficult moments.
Through outreach, awareness events, memorial walks, scholarships, community partnerships, and open conversations, we strive to break the stigma surrounding suicide and encourage hope, healing, and support for those who have experienced loss or hardship. We believe that no person should ever feel alone, and that communities grow stronger when they come together to uplift one another with compassion and understanding.
Steppin For Strength Walk
September 26, 2026 | 9:00 AM-2:00PM
Join us as we walk in memory of Tanner and all those we have lost to suicide, while standing beside those who continue to fight their battles every day. Together, we take each step to raise awareness, inspire hope, support survivors, and remind others that they are never alone. Every step tells a story. Every step strengthens a community. Every step matters.

About Tanner
Tanner Conques was born on February 13, 1994, to Nicole Conques Morgan and Carl Morgan. Raised in the close-knit community of Rayne, Louisiana, Tanner grew up surrounded by family, friends, and the simple joys of South Louisiana life. He attended Rayne High School, where he built friendships that would stay with him throughout his life. From a young age, Tanner loved being outdoors. Whether he was spending time with friends, enjoying the Louisiana sunshine, or simply making memories with the people he loved, he was happiest when surrounded by others. One thing that never changed was his love for his momma's cooking. No matter where life took him, there was always comfort in coming home to a meal made with love.
As Tanner grew older, he became known as the life of the party. His smile was contagious, his laughter unforgettable, and his presence could light up any room. He had a way of bringing people together, making everyone feel welcome, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Family and friends meant everything to him, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. Like many young men in South Louisiana, Tanner built a career in the oilfield through hard work, determination, and long hours. He took pride in his work and the life he was building. To those looking from the outside, Tanner's life appeared full of friendship, success, and happiness. But beneath the smiles and laughter, Tanner was fighting battles that many never saw. He carried struggles within himself that he often faced quietly and alone. His story serves as a powerful reminder that we never truly know what someone may be going through behind closed doors.
On October 20, 2019, Tanner lost his battle with those unseen struggles and took his own life. His passing left an unimaginable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. While the pain of that loss will always remain, so too will the memories of his kindness, his laughter, his love for others, and the joy he brought into so many lives. Today, Tanner's legacy lives on through the love of his family, the memories shared by his friends, and the lives touched by his story.
Through Steppin For Strength – Tanner's Journey, we honor Tanner's memory by raising awareness, encouraging open conversations about mental health and suicide prevention, supporting families affected by loss, and reminding others that they are never alone. Though Tanner's journey ended far too soon, his impact continues to inspire hope, compassion, understanding, and strength in the hearts of those who loved him. His story is not only one of loss, but also one of love, remembrance, and the commitment to ensure that others know there is always help, always hope, and always someone willing to listen.
